Originally inhabited by Native Americans, Woodland Hills was then settled by Europeans. The first settlers were a part of the Portola Expedition in 1769, who sought locations for Spanish missions. Americans then began purchasing the land in the 1860s, and Victor Girard Kleinberger founded what was then called the town of Girard in 1922. He planted over 120,000 trees and built infrastructure to attract residents. Eventually, this town was incorporated into Los Angeles and was named Woodland Hills in 1945. 

In Woodland Hills, you can bike, hike, or spend the day at the park on the weekends with your family. The Upper Las Virgenes Open Space Preserve is over 3,000 acres with plenty of hiking trails, picnicking spots, and amazing views. Family-fun is one of the community’s main attractions as the city offers Concerts on the Green at Warner Park. Or if you want a day out on the town, Ventura Boulevard has plenty of stores, restaurants, and live music. If you take a quick trip to Topanga, then you can visit the Westfield Topanga Mall, which has over 300 shops to choose from.
