Calabasas is located in the hills west of the San Fernando Valley and is in the northwest Santa Monica Mountains. In honor of the name of the city the Chamber of Commerce holds an annual Pumpkin Festival in October including carnival games, exhibits, and live entertainment. Calabasas funds its own public transportation in the form of a shuttle and trolley service. also funds its own municipal Library, runs the Calabasas Tennis & Swim Center, and has a protected district called “Old Town Calabasas”. Calabasas enacted the Comprehensive Second-hand Smoke Control Ordinance that prohibits smoking in all public places in 2006. The residents are zoned to the Las Virgenes Unified School District, one of the highest ranked districts in the state.
